Basic structure

Microstrip patch antenna consists of three main parts

Metal patch : usually a metal piece of rectangular, circular or other shapes.

Dielectric Substrate: The dielectric material between the patch and the ground plane, usually FR-4, RT/duroid, etc.

Ground Plane: The metal layer on the other side of the substrate


◆Patch antenna is an antenna widely used in the field of wireless communications. Its principle is to use the dielectric interface between the conductor material of the patch and the air to achieve electromagnetic radiation and reception. Patch antennas usually consist of three parts: a conductive layer, a dielectric layer, and a reflective layer. The conductive layer is made of metal material, which is responsible for transmitting the energy of electromagnetic waves, while the dielectric layer is made of insulating material, which is used to maintain the distance between the conductive layers and improve the efficiency of the antenna. The reflective layer is a metal plate located under the antenna, which can reflect the signal reflected from the ground, thereby enhancing the signal reception ability of the antenna.

◆The working principle of the patch antenna is to achieve signal radiation and reception through electromagnetic coupling between the metal sheet and the floor. The design of the patch antenna needs to consider factors such as frequency, impedance matching, and radiation efficiency, and usually requires simulation and optimization.
